In Respect of Ordinary Things has been performed in Montréal…
As the title suggests, In Respect of Ordinary Things relies on turning ordinary sounds into remarkable soundscapes. The active ear of the composer through experiment discovers the inner workings of sound morphologies, and out of the most fleeting and unsuspected things discrete sound materials are reaped. These truly ordinary things (from small sounding objects to incidental human-based sounds) surrender their ephemeral and supposedly banal qualities, and become the subject of our most dedicated listening. Brought into the concert hall as refined organised sounds they achieve a permanence which seemingly contradicts their previously transient character. One never ceases to be amazed at how ordinary things can be truly remarkable.
