La grande vallée

Lionel Marchetti

La grande vallée has been performed in Turin…

La grande vallée (The wide valley) is a night path not far from a river. The land all around is wild, still charged with the dampness of a storm that has broken in the summer countryside. The man walking is this primitive hidden behind the face of everyone: the man of the outdoors and the wind, of a nature still virgin (pristine). He walks to his own rhythm, calmly, nourishing himself on space, sparkling objects, and the far-off cries of mysterious animals. Guided by a strange-voiced muse, he allows himself to become entwined by these cries which roll him up in the landscape of his spirit in a plenary wave. A luminous, rich, lively flora and fauna envelops him in its incandescent boughs. The man is alone. The space is free. Open. The walker is not afraid. Finally, he draws near to a group of people, passes through them, leaves them behind, and continues walking along the path. [translation: Key Ransone]
