What strikes the listener in Lamento V is the instrumentation. The opposition of the string quartet and the reduced electronics is clear and produces well defined outlines. Sometimes clearly in the foreground and at other times colouring subtly the sound of the strings, the electronics are used to put the music under a different light. The small drum plays by itself really: an arm hits the drum’s skin from the inside.
