Connections, opportunities for mistakes

Francisco Meirino

Connections, opportunities for mistakes has been performed in Montréal…

Connections is based on the idea of presenting what recording is not supposed to be: minidisc recording failures, the death of a PA system, electro-static background noises, broken cassette recorder and so forth. What are the background sounds? Are they placed there on purpose? Why did the artist used this sound? Can a failure sound become something more than just annoying? I have always worked on the tension between programmed and accidental results. When something suddenly crashes within a performance context, either if it is the PA, your gear or your composition skills, you must continue by not letting the failure stop your creation process.

Connections is all about encouraging the listener to get involved, to let him make his own choice about how he his listening to a record, questioning the act of “making” sound itself.
