Magical power exerted on a being or thing, spell; state of the person or thing subject to it: practices intended to put an enchantment to an end.

As if by magic (enchantement in French): in an unexpected way. The pain disappeared as if by magic.

In the narrow sense, an enchantment is the act of subjecting a person or thing through the action of charms, that is incantatory formulas (chants, psalmodies, magic words).

Another definition of enchantment is the act of acting on someone through magical operations (including charms) in such a way that the person affected loses his will and even his identity.

Slow music, in which the notes played by the orchestra are taken directly from the electroacoustic material. The idea of the piece is to achieve a fusion between the acoustic and electroacoustic parts. In concert, the loudspeakers will have to be positioned behind the instrumentalists so that we perceive a single sound source, a fusion of the two worlds. As if by magic.

L’enchantement [Enchantment] for a string orchestra of 16 performers and 10-channel fixed medium was commissioned by I Musici de Montréal with support from the Fondation Famille Lupien. The work was premiered by I Musici de Montréal during the Te Deum concert on March 21, 2024 at the St James United Church in Montréal (Québec).
