This composition consists of a series of pathways for six improvisers. The score’s instructions define each performer’s role as well as the overall form, while leaving the interpreters great freedom and the possibility to respond to one another’s interventions.

With each performance, the musicians change parts and different pathways are played, so that each version is unique and quite different from the others.

The title of the piece comes from the name of a character in Greek mythology. A sculptor, architect, and brilliant inventor, Daedalus created, among other things, the labyrinth and the wings that allowed him to fly away with his son Icarus. In another, darker episode of his eventful life, he murdered his nephew Perdix out of jealousy — Perdix being the inventor of the saw and the compass.
