A flight over a blue planet…

DMXnébula investigates seven themes: overture, cosmos, celestial, vox, urban, world, night and day.

An inflatable spherical structure (6 meters in diameter) representing a huge planet, with lighting and multichannel music, all created for an outdoors event. Glowing shapes, images, colours, and moving sounds come out of it. 30 minutes long, the eight-channel music is synchronized with the automated lighting show. It is played back on a multichannel diffusion system and in stereo over the FM airwaves — people could watch the light show from a distance and turn on their radio to listen to the music.

DMXnébula was realized at the composer’s studio (Studio Séducson) in Montréal — mixes and transfers at Multisons studio — in 2000 and ’02 and premiered as part of François Doyon’s multimedia installation by the same title on February 11, 2000 at the Place du Canada during the Montréal Highlights Festival / International Light Symposium. This acousmatic version of DMXnébula blends together remixes of the various sections of the installation music. It was commissioned by the Montréal Highlights Festival. Thanks to François Doyon and Frédéric Salter for his technical advice.
